Enric Gener- Underwater Worlds

Enric Gener was born on Menorca in the Balearic Islands, growing up close by the ocean. His work is an iconography of his relationship with the sea. Enric keeps his frames simple + clean, without overfilling them with content, only the essential elements. This makes the viewer feel submerged with him.

Enric’s first passion is the sea, even more so that the actual photography. His work is a documentary of real life happening around him.  He spends as much time as possible in and around the sea. Photography is his partner to document this. Sometimes he claims, it can be difficult to walk, swim or travel with the camera. But other times is the camera that pushes him to walk farther, swim deeper or travel longer…

Background:
At 19, Enric moved to Barcelona to study Digital Art and Design at ESDI for 5 years, where he had his first contact with photography. After completing his studies he worked at ANFIBIC, a design + digital marketing agency. In 2007 he moved to Madrid to work for the digital agency WISYWYG specializing in motion graphics and animation.

In Madrid, wanting to combine his two passions Photography + The Ocean, he bought a small and cheap underwater camera and decided to travel to Malaysia for one month. It was after this trip when he decided to make a big change in his life. So in 2009 he quit his job, bought the best underwater camera he could afford, and moved to El Hierro, a tiny island in the Pacific Ocean. He created his own Motion Graphic company to work remotely. This allowed him to live close by the sea, have freedom to travel and build his own language in underwater photography.

Enric: “My idea was to keep my photo project far away from the industry and have absolute freedom to create something totally personal.”

Ever since 2009 he’s been living this life of spending half a year on Menorca and the other half traveling, discovering new seas and cultures around the them, living in places such as Canary Islands, Sydney, Tonga, Palau, Egypt, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Belize, Galapagos…
